Seeking Christ
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart”
The verse above, Jeremiah 29:13 , is part of a larger scripture selection. “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile." Jeremiah 29 : 11-14 (Old Testament)
“Keep asking, and it will be given to you; keep seeking, and you will find; keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” Jesus
Real Prayer
“Real prayer always starts with where we really are, not with where we think we should be, or where someone else thinks we should be.”
God always meets us where we are, not where we think we should be.
The Bible says that in order to find God, we have to seek him with our whole heart. On this page, I want to talk about how we can seek God in prayer, even when we know that we do not yet seek him wholeheartedly. …
To begin, honestly figure out where you are, and then talk to God about it.
For example, if you know you are not seeking him with your whole heart, you might pray this way: “God, I know I am supposed to be hungry for you and to seek you above everything else, but I have to admit that I am seeking a lot of other things besides you. Really, you are often an afterthought to me in my busy life…. But I would like to seek you with my whole heart, and so I ask you to change my heart so that I begin to….”
But suppose when you are honest you have to admit to yourself and to God that you do not yet even want to seek him with your whole hear! Is there hope? Sure, there is still something you can pray! You could pray something like this:
“ Lord, I know that in order to find you, I must seek you wholeheartedly. But I have to be honest, God: I don’t even want to seek you before everything else! Other things interest me more. So I ask you to cause me to seek you wholeheartedly, because I honestly don’t want that yet. I know that something is wrong with my heart, and so I ask you to change my heart so that I want to seek you with my whole being.”
This verse, Luke 11:9 , is part of a larger scripture selection where Jesus is speaking: “Moreover, I myself say to you: keep asking, and it will be given to you; keep seeking, and you will find; keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who goes on asking receives; and he who goes on seeking finds; and to him who continues knocking, the door will be opened. Luke 11:9-10 , Complete Jewish Bible translation (New Testament)
I also want to share with you a favorite quote of mine spoken by a seeker for God. Augustine lived 1600 years ago in North Africa in times much like our times. He was raised by a pagan Dad and a Christian mom, Monica, who never stopped praying for him, but to her sorow, he rejected the Christian faith and was very wild young man. Later, he came to the Lord after a series of events where he felt as if, in the midst of great pain and struggle, the Lord had spoken to his heart.
He later wrote:
“Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee."
If you feel you are a seeker, no matter where you live, I'd be glad to recevie an email from you, and it would be a privilege to pray for you in your search for God.
