At the present time we meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. in the Seeker’s Room in the Fellowship Hall. We only meet from September through May. However, we usually have a luncheon meeting at Hope Village in Sept. and May. A covered dish luncheon is planned for each Dec. meeting. We meet to study and discuss materials we choose to increase our knowledge and understanding of the Bible. We also have delicious refreshments. In October of each year we sponsor the Heifer Project. In November we refurbish and make new Chrismons for the Sanctuary Christmas tree. In December we make a donation to Christian Helping Hands and the Neighborhood Center. In February we collect supplies for the Battered Women's Shelter. All women are welcome to attend.

Musical Ministries
Choir
Sanctuary Choir: The sanctuary choir performs a variety of music styles (from traditional hymn-based singing to contemporary praise anthems) from August through May during the 9:15 service. The choir is comprised of voluntary singers of all ages and experience levels. Although prior vocal experience and/or music reading ability are helpful, it is not required. Many choir members learn to read music after first singing "by ear".
The choir practices on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 PM, and rehearsals usually last about 45 minutes. On Sunday mornings, the choir "warms up" at 9:00 AM before the 9:15 AM service. The choir is always seeking new singers who feel called to "make a joyful noise unto the Lord".
Praise Band
Praise Band: The praise band performs various musical styles from Southern Gospel to Contemporary Praise and Worship Music from August through May at the 9:15 Service. During the summer months, we perform on a "make-it-when-you-can" basis.
We are a blend of volunteer musicians of all ages and experience levels. Our only requirement is that love of praising the LORD.
Often the Praise Band is a learning experience for all. At times, we do sing arrangements in stand vocal parts, however, the far majority of the time we use "lead sheets". The gift of harmonic improvisation is a remarkable blessing, but not mandatory.
The praise band practices on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary for approximately one hour. Each Sunday morning, we try to “warm-up” at 8:30 a.m.
We are always open to new musicians and singers that love to "make a joyful noise".
Morning Exercise
Morning Exercise: Meets on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 8:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend.
Bible Studies
Pastor's Bible Study
Pastor's Bible Study: Pastor's Bible Study takes place most Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 7:30 PM in the fellowship hall. The pastor leads the study and begins with singing, prayer, and then a study of various Bible passages—which are sometimes connected to upcoming sermons. The Study is open to all who want to understand in more depth the message from God found in Bible passages.
Wednesday Morning Women's Bible Study
Wednesday Morning Women's Bible Study: During the school year, September through May, the group meets Wednesday mornings from 9:30AM to 10:30AM in the Church Library. Study books are used, giving everyone a chance to look up scriptures and make notes that can be shared, if they choose, during the weekly meeting. Leader’s guides and commentaries are used as scriptures are read and compared.
Women's Bible Study
Women's Bible Study (AKA Beth Moore Group): This group meets at certain times of the year on Wednesday evenings, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., in the Bible Basics Classroom. There is a small fee for the course to cover cost of study and workbook.
Small Groups
Monday Night Small Groups
Monday Night Small Group: (3) Small Groups meet every Monday evening at the Church or church members home at approximately 7:00 PM. The groups are not limited to just church members. They take time to share praises and prayer concerns. They read a chosen book, a chapter each week. The studies lead to discussions about things that have happened in our lives and how they have handled them. In about 1 ½ to 2 hours, the group closes by holding hands and saying the Lord’s Prayer. The evening is ended with snacks and fellowship.
Serendipity Small Group
Serendipity Small Group - was formed in l986-87 and was the First Small Group of this nature in our Church. We meet monthly, on the 3rd Thursday, in members’ homes. Our attendance averages about 20-22. Currently, we are using as a basis of our study, “At the End of the Day, How Will You Be Remembered?” ALL ARE WELCOMED
Family Connections
Family – Connections Small Group: Meets on the second Sunday of every month in the Pastor’s office during Adult Bible Study. This group was formed to fill a desire to reach out to anyone in the church community desiring a safe environment to talk about various family and relationship issues. Some of the concentrations of our group discussions in the past have included: dating; marriage; issues with both young and older children; issues with both aging parents and grandparents; and multi-denominational households.
Junior/Senior High
Junior/Senior High Small Group: This group is made up of Junior and Senior High youth (grades 7-12). The leadership of Junior/Senior High Small Group operates with the knowledge that most student participants have at least a little understanding of the Bible and Christ. Our goal is to expand on that knowledge so that the youth can begin to grow their faith and share their faith with others. By going on outside trips and missions, the youth meet other youth for Christ and develop lifelong friends.
It is expected that the individual will come to as many youth activities as possible (currently Sunday school and other outside activities as planned) and participate in the activities. Through this, we hope their faith journey continues to get stronger and stronger. The Junior/Senior High Small Group is open to anyone in the seventh through twelfth grades who wish to belong to a Christian group of youth committed to serving the Lord the rest of their lives and have fun doing it. "
Prayer Ministry
Power of Prayer Team
Power of Prayer Team Ministry: Our goal is to humbly answer God’s call to offer our prayers at least twice a month as a group for the church family at First Presbyterian Church – Pearland, the programs and activities of the Church, and all prayer concerns submitted to the prayer team.
We are happy to receive the prayer requests in a variety of methods including the following: 1) Prayer cards placed in the offering plates on Sundays, 2) Requests made personally to one of the members of the team, 3) E-mail requests, and 4) Specific requests from attendees
Participation is voluntary and open to all. We have a small group of regular attendees. Others have occasionally visited the Prayer Team meetings to join us for prayer and/or to request prayer for themselves, for others or for specific concerns.
The Power of Prayer Team Ministry meetings take place on the first and third Tuesday of each month, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., in the Sanctuary.
Prayer Chain
The church has an electronic prayer chain where anyone can request prayers by sending their request to the church secretary (

Prayer Request Submisision
Windsong Village Convalescent Center
Windsong Village Convalescent Center - Would you like to bring a smile to someone’s face? Would you like to be praised for your singing even when it is off key and you don’t know all the words? Would you like to meet a lady who is 108 and still loves the Lord, loves to share Him and loves to hear the old hymns?
If this sounds interesting, come join our group at Windsong Village Convalescent Center for an hour and one half on Saturday mornings. We sing and visit with the residents during their lunch hour.
This group of Church volunteers has been visiting most Saturdays for the past 7 years. During that time we have received many blessings and have made many new friends. We would welcome you to join us and receive blessings also.
Meals on Wheels
Pearland Meals on Wheels - Delivers lunches to homebound residents of Pearland. We share this ministry with 8 other local congregations therefore our turn occurs approximately every eight weeks. The Meals on Wheels program has long been a part of First Presbyterian Church's Pearland community outreach.
Meals on Wheels are chartered by the State of Texas as a non-profit corporation. It receives no government funding. Our drivers donate their time, cars, and gasoline. Two drivers go to the hospital each day and get the meals and bring them to the church. The two drivers for each route deliver the meals to the client’s home and return the empty transport containers to the church. This requires six drivers each day. Our church recruits drivers who are willing to volunteer about 2 hours once every eight weeks. The volunteers are expected to take their commitment seriously and only cancel or decline when unavoidable. This dedication enables us to meet our goal of prompt service to those relying on us for an appropriate well balanced meal. Meals on Wheels provide meals for diabetics, those on no-salt diets, as well as regular meals. We deliver 25 to 32 meals per day.
Alpha Course
Alpha Course - The Alpha course is a ten week video course (plus a weekend retreat) in basic Christianity which has been viewed by eleven million persons worldwide. The format of the course is that it usually begins with a meal followed by the video presentation which is a good way to get nonbelievers or seekers exposed to the gospel, and it is also a way to help answer questions believers may have. A discussion follows the video. The discussions can occur in the total group or in small groups. A sample schedule can be requested from the Pastor.
The course curriculum is the book 'Questions of Life' by Nicky Gumbel. Each talk reflects one of the chapters from this book.
Our church has run several alpha courses in the past, and we own the videos which we can show on our large screen TV. Currently we do not have a coordinator, but if you are interested in taking this course, talk to the Pastor.
Christian Helping Hands

Cursillo
Presbyterian Cursillo - Presbyterian Cursillo is a purposefully designed method for renewing the faith of individuals and, through the individuals, the environments in which they live and work. ""Cursillo"" means a short course in living the Christian faith and is designed to provide a framework for the development of Christians in the local church and in the world. A Cursillo is a three-day retreat weekend filled with short talks, music, fellowship, small group discussion and great food. Each weekend is led by lay people from Presbyterian churches in Houston and the surrounding area. Several ordained Presbyterian clergy are on staff. The weekend is centered on the talks and personal testimony of the lay people and clergy that make up the staff for the weekend. The activities provide an opportunity for the participants to discover a new and exciting relationship with Christ and to encourage them to then take that newfound relationship back to their home, work and church environments. Cursillo is not designed to convert from unbelief to belief. It is intended for Presbyterians who seek continued growth in their faith and commitment. It is a life-changing experience.
Couples are encouraged to go at the same time, but you will not be together on the weekend. You will not room together nor will you be in the same group.
The commitment and the responsibilities of a participant are to come with an open mind and heart to what God will put on your heart and mind. After the weekend you are encouraged to take part in Fourth day activities with people who have gone to past Cursillos.
There are four? Cursillos each year held at three different locations. The cost varies between $150 and $210. Fore more informtion or to register go to: http://www.houstoncursillo.org
