| Pearland Meals on Wheels - Delivers lunches to homebound residents of Pearland. We share this ministry with 8 other local congregations therefore our turn occurs approximately every eight weeks. The Meals on Wheels program has long been a part of First Presbyterian Church's Pearland community outreach. Meals on Wheels are chartered by the State of Texas as a non-profit corporation. It receives no government funding. Our drivers donate their time, cars, and gasoline. Two drivers go to the hospital each day and get the meals and bring them to the church. The two drivers for each route deliver the meals to the client’s home and return the empty transport containers to the church. This requires six drivers each day. Our church recruits drivers who are willing to volunteer about 2 hours once every eight weeks. The volunteers are expected to take their commitment seriously and only cancel or decline when unavoidable. This dedication enables us to meet our goal of prompt service to those relying on us for an appropriate well balanced meal. Meals on Wheels provide meals for diabetics, those on no-salt diets, as well as regular meals. We deliver 25 to 32 meals per day. |
