Healing Service

Healing Ministry Service: On the last Sunday of the month we hold a Healing and Wholeness Service in the Sanctuary at 6:00 p.m.

Christian Healing is divine restoration to health, order, and wholeness. Jesus holds out the grace. We believe Him enough to reach out and take it. We do see changes in physical bodies, but healing also occurs in emotions, relationships and situations. When a healing is instantaneous and complete, we call it a miracle. Healings also occur over time.

One of the reasons the early church grew so explosively is because it healed the sick. Sick people were often put out by their families. Christians took them in, nursed them, and bathed them in prayer. Once those who had been ill became healthy again, they became powerful witnesses. As illness outstrips the medical profession’s ability to handle it and as financial distress makes medical care increasingly out of reach, Christian healing becomes more vital. We need to become the Christian ministers God calls us to be.

A lot of those who would appreciate our prayer and love and attention are afraid to ask for it. When you ask people how they are, and they dare to tell you, DO NOT BACK AWAY. Stand there. Listen. OFFER God's grace to people. Offer to pray! Some people laugh at the laying on hands, but if it was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for us. The early church anointed with oil (James 5:14 ). This can help people to zero in on what God is doing for them, too. When we’re praying with someone, we should get their permission – first to pray and then about the touching and anointing.

First Presbyterian Church has a service every month in the church hall at 6 PM. It is called the “Last Sunday Healing Service”. It is advertised and open to the community. We have healing prayer available in the sanctuary during Sunday services. The prayer room is available after services for this use.
