PastorEldersElders (the word in the Greek New Testametn is "presbyters") are elected to three-year terms to be spiritual leaders and to govern the church under the headship of Jesus Christ. When elders in a Presbyterian church meet together they are called "the Session". SessionThe Session in our congregation is made up of 12 Elders with the minister also having a vote and being the moderator of the meetings. Session is the governing body over the individual congregation under the Headship of JesusChrist and led by the Holy Spirit. Elders are supposed to seek God's will, not their own will, and not even the congregation's will! In addition to God's Word, the Bible, there are 2 very human books to help with this leadership. They are The Book of Confessions and the Book of Order. Most church ministry teams (committees) are chaired by a session member. Those are Worship; Christian Education (Adult, Youth, and Children); Finance; Property & Grounds Maintenance; Evangelism & Missions Ministry (includes Christian Helping Hands and Meals On Wheels); and Communications, Fellowship, and Personnel. As Mother’s Day Out meets in our church building 2 days a week-September through May- the session oversees this program, too. The session meets the second Tuesday evening at 7:15 PM each month. There might be additional short meetings called if someone wants to join the church or to answer a financial question. DeaconsDeacons: The New Testament word for deacon is "diakonos." It means a servant or table-waiter. Deacons are servants or caregivers.;They visit and call the sick, needy, visitors, etc. Deacons are elected to three-year staggered terms and currently meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. At the beginning of each year, one of the deacons is elected moderator of the deacons for that year. |
